Practicing, for what?

To be better
To embrace growth mindset
To be more skillful at helping others
To experience less suffering
To reduce the suffering of others
To help us all get along more
To lead our team more effectively
To make more room to care for those important to us
To feel more whole or complete…
To…

Depending on how we hold it, the word ‘practice’ can be imbued with much. Often it is with a feeling of “in order to…” What would it be to join this impulse of “to do something about it” with an expansively still heart?

I’m going to particularly advocate or place emphasis on this latter ingredient. Even as spiritual truths are more accessible than ever, they are often pursued as a means to something. We practice meditation so that… We engage in breathing exercises so that… We have difficult conversations so that…

I am not suggesting that desires and action for more harmony, ease, creativity and love to be present are somehow “bad” or not to be engaged.

I'm calling attention to a subtle energy, easily missed.

Why? I sat down to write and began asking questions that led me down my own “in order to.” I’m investigating, inquiring, becoming more intimate with that very arising. You’re reading the real-time process.
